Sadly, Calypso did not survive hurricane Helene. We are heartbroken over the loss of this historic 100-year-old cottage. Below is a photo of the remnants left behind following the storm. We are working diligently to restore Calypso. While she can never return to her former glory, we hope she will embrace all she was before.

For the complete Cedar Key experience, come stay at Calypso, a charming Gulf-front historic cottage located right on 1st Street. Calypso is conveniently situated just a block away from shops, restaurants, and bars, and only two blocks from famous Dock Street.

With stunning open water views of the Gulf of Mexico, Calypso offers a nostalgic step back in time. Gently restored to include modern comforts and little luxuries, this cozy 1.5 bedroom / 1 bath cottage provides the ideal Cedar Key getaway. The original heart pine floors have been beautifully refinished to retain their vintage charm. Calypso features a refreshed kitchen, bath, and laundry area equipped with modern amenities. The cottage's 1.5 bedrooms reflect its century-old style, with the second bedroom containing a full bed accessed through the king bedroom, making it perfect for families or close friends to share.

The waterside deck is a perfect spot for your morning coffee, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding islands where you can watch shorebirds, including pelicans, herons, spoonbills, egrets, ospreys, and even the occasional rare wild flamingo(!) pass by. On hazy days, enjoy watching the horizon blend seamlessly between the sky and water. At night, the channel markers twinkle out into the Gulf, making it a great spot for stargazing. During certain times of the year, you may even catch a clear view of the Milky Way. You can also watch dolphin pods fishing and playing right in front of the house as the tide comes in and goes out. The front porch is an ideal afternoon location for people-watching while enjoying a drink from the swing.

What sets Calypso apart from other rentals? It’s the little things. Plush towels, crisp linens, new appliances, quality kitchenware, real wine glasses, and a new HVAC system make for a comfortable stay. Each nightstand features USB direct plugs for charging devices. Both a drip coffee maker and a Nespresso machine (don’t forget your thimble-sized pods) are provided. With Verizon Home Internet offering 300 Mbps service, you can easily stream your favorite movies or work from home if you must. A flip-top table in the laundry room provides a quiet spot for crafting or working remotely.

Calypso is small dog friendly for pets up to 20 lbs for an additional fee.

Kayaks and bicycles are included for your enjoyment, and a golf cart is available for rent. Calypso’s waterfront is protected from erosion by a stone and concrete seawall, so the water is not directly accessible in front of the cottage. Water access is available at either end of 1st Street at the City Beach or at the G Street beach.
