Sadly, Calypso did not survive hurricane Helene.  We are heartbroken in the loss of this 100ish year old wonderful cottage.  Below is a photo of what was left behind following the storm.  We are working to get Calypso back again.  She can never be as she was but hopefully, she will embrace all she was before.

For the complete Cedar Key experience, come stay at Calypso, a 100-year-old Gulf-front historic cottage right on 1st Street.  Calypso is within just a block of shops, restaurants and bars.  It is just two blocks from famous Dock Street.

With open water views of the Gulf of Mexico, Calypso offers a step back in time.  Gently restored to include modern comforts and little luxuries, this 1.5 bedroom / 1 bath cottage is the ideal Cedar Key experience.  Original heart pine floors have been refinished to a glow, in keeping with her time.  Calypso has a refreshed kitchen, bath and laundry with modern amenities.  Calypso’s 1.5 bedrooms reflect the cottage style of her hundred years, as the second bedroom with a full bed is accessed through the king bedroom.   This is best for family or close friends to share.

A perfect spot for your morning coffee, the waterside deck offers views of the surrounding islands where you can watch the shore birds, including pelicans, herons, spoonbills, egrets, ospreys and an occasional rare wild flamingo(!) cruise by. Watch the horizon disappear between the sky and the water during the right kind of hazy day.  At night, watch the channel markers twinkle out into the Gulf.  Great for stargazing, at certain times of year, you will get a clear view of the Milky Way.  Watch dolphin pods fish and play right in front of the house as the tide come in and go out.   The front porch is the perfect afternoon locale for people watching and sipping from the swing.  

What makes Calypso different from other rentals?  It’s the little things.  Plush towels, crisp linens, new appliances, great kitchenware, real wine glasses, and new HVAC make for a great stay.  Each night stand offers usb direct plugs for charging devices.  Both a drip coffee maker and a Nespresso machine (bring your thimble sized pods) are supplied.  Verizon Home Internet offers service at 300Mbs so you can stream your favorite movies or work from home, if you really must.  A flip-top table in the laundry room offers a quiet spot for crafting or WFH.  


Calypso is small dog friendly up to 20 lbs for a fee.


Kayaks and bicycles are included. A golf cart is available for rent.  Calypso’s waterfront is protected from erosion by a stone and concrete seawall so the water is NOT accessible in front of Calypso. Water access is available at each end of 1st Street on the City Beach or at the G Street beach
